‘The Demon Drink’ with The Victorian Barry Experience

‘The Demon Drink’ with The Victorian Barry Experience

2:00 pm-3:00 pm | 04/07/2023

Glamorgan Archives events programme

The Victorian Barry Experience was founded in 2018 by Nic and Shirley Hodges, a husband and wife team passionate about sharing their extensive collection of memorabilia related to all things Barry. Their mission is to showcase the rich history of this Welsh town and to highlight the many challenges and triumphs that have shaped its development over time.

Through a combination of old photographs, newspaper articles, and police reports, Nic leads history walks and talks that offer a fascinating glimpse into the early days of Barry. Visitors can learn about the town’s community, who came from near and far to work in the docks and build a new life for themselves. They also explore some of the key social issues that shaped life in Barry during this period.

‘The Demon Drink’ explores the conflict between those who enjoyed a tipple and the temperance league. This talk is both shocking and entertaining, bringing local history to life in a way that is both engaging and informative. The Victorian Barry Experience provides a unique window into the past and helps visitors to better understand how the town has evolved into the vibrant community it is today.

This event will be held in person at Glamorgan Archives.
